Ties Vs. Velcro

This is the newest item to join our collection this week. Sweet little puppy dogs chasing rubber balls and little mice.

When we were newly married, and even when my oldest was born, my husband was employed as a K9 bomb handler. Yes...bomb dogs. He had been doing it for a number of years, and everybody knew his partner, Kodi. Because of this, we got SO many dog related wedding and baby gifts (um, not at the same time...approximately 10 months apart thank you very much :) ). Just about every single gift Brychan got had a dog on it somewhere. It was kind of funny. But, this fabric reminds me of that and it really just makes me smile.

This particular cover has the Velcro straps holding it on versus the ribbon ties that I am more fond of.

Why do I prefer the ribbon ties? They hold tighter. Once you tie those babies on, there is no slipping back and forth on the handle, no accidental ripping off of the cover - they stay put. You can see in the photo above that the straps are not sitting straight. That would drive me absolutely insane. I would constantly be trying to straighten them as I went. Plus, Velcro gets icky after awhile. Granted, they're not quite as convenient as the Velcro, nor are they as cost effective. And maybe it's just because that's what my own, personal car seat cover came with that makes me prefer the ribbon. I don't know. I do know that a lot of people prefer the Velcro. What do you think? Which type would you prefer?

Winner, Winner!!

Remember the big giveaway we had over at Baby Brainstorm at the beginning of the month? The lucky winner got to choose their pick of a custom made car seat cover and burp cloth set.

Our lucky winner was Gerri (she's from Colorado), and she has been an absolute gem to work with! She ultimately picked the Pink Daisy Dots car seat cover and the Sweet Summer Flowers burp cloth set.

Want to see?
(The original Pink Dasiy Dots car seat cover was made for my niece, Emery, who was born last month)
Lots of pink, girly flowers. Fun!

Gerri is a foster mom, and is getting these cute baby girl supplies for future babies coming into her care. I love that! There aren't enough good foster families out there, and I am so happy to be able to provide cute baby goods for those who need it most!

EtsyKids Design Challenge

I am new to the EtsyKids team. However, they evidently have a design challenge each month where they announce a theme, and you create something to go along with that theme. Obviously, this is my first time participating, so I have lots to learn, but here is my first attempt:

Theme: In the Mood for School

If you go to the EtsyKids blog between August 21 - 28, I believe you can see all the entries for the month. It'll be fun to see what everybody else came up with!

Army, Baby!

I am pretty dang proud to say that my husband has served our country while serving in the Army.

One evening while strolling through a fabric store with me, he suggested that I start doing some military themed car seat covers. I had thought of that before, but had been unable to find any super cute military-esque fabric. We looked at that particular fabric store that night and found nothing. Another good idea put on the back burner.

Seriously not even a week later, one of our Facebook fans asked for an Army car seat cover. So I went to work spending I don't know how many days searching for cute military fabric.

At some random little fabric store (in Michigan, I think) I found some Robert Kauffman "Patriots" fabric. And our first, military car seat cover made it's debut.

It has the "Patriot" material on top, with a super soft (fine wale) corduroy camouflage backing.
Our client loved it!! Luckily, there is plenty of fabric left over, so if you know of any Army babies, this could be the perfect gift!
